I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone an early MERRY CHRISTMAS! With all the hustle and bustle of the Holiday season, things get pretty crazy around this time of the year as we all know. November was quite a busy month for us at SCC. Out on the course, Joe Ruwe replaced the old toilets at the rest rooms with brand new handicap ones. He mentioned to me that it was very possible that those were the “original ones” when the rest rooms were put up! Thank you Joe for doing that for us. Also, Ed Meehan put down indoor/outdoor carpet in both bathrooms. This certainly should make it feel a bit nicer and add to the looks a substantial amount. Thanks Ed for doing this, and the other things you do for the club! The new, smaller, brand new ice machine Jeff Hackney installed for us in the kitchen is working out very nicely. The huge, old monster that was behind the Pro Shop was using a ton of electricity, as well as needing to be fixed and serviced ALL the time. Our club is saving quite a bit of money not having to run the old machine anymore. Things like this, when you do a lot of them, make a big difference in running the club more efficiently. I would like to thank Jeff Hackney, for once again, stepping up for our club. It really is members like these 3, and certainly others I have not mentioned, that we count on all the time to help “keep the club running.” Coming up very soon, the NEW BRIDGE on #9 will be installed! Yes, you heard it right, we are finally going to have a bridge back at the end of the cart path where the old one used to be. Thanks to new member Toby Clements, he and his company are donating the entire bridge project. They are building the “metal bridge” as we speak, and I can’t wait to see it go in on #9. I can’t THANK Toby and his company enough! I know all of our members will thank them as well. Finally, as I stated last month, we are beginning to do the newsletters and statements through email. There will be paper copies available in the Pro Shop if you would rather read them in person. The newsletter will also be on our web site, I really encourage all of you to check out the website when you can.

Our ANNUAL MEETING is coming up next month. It’s hard to believe that it has already been one year! The date for the meeting will be, Monday, January 20, at 6:00 PM. We will have some food and drinks first, and then the meeting will begin. ALL members are encouraged to attend, but only the Senior members will be able to vote. Our board members, led by President Jimmy Prevatt, work hard all year and will have quite a bit to say, I am sure. I hope to see a good crowd this year, and look forward to seeing you in January!

First of all, hope all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Since everyone did, it’s time to get out and play lots of golf to work off all those extra calories we took on.  Look forward to seeing you all out on the course.

Fall is upon us and Temperatures are changing on a daily basis.  More cool temps are on their way.  Recently you have seen a few of the greens top dressed and all of them fertilized.  This process will help us out through the winter months.  They are I will admit, speeding up a little bit.  This too is due to the early cool temps.  From what I have learned at this course is, nobody enjoys slow greens when it’s warm and nobody really enjoys the greens fast at this time of the year.  It’s the nature of the beast (this grass) and my staff and myself do our very best to give all members and guest alike the best playing golf conditions possible.  Thank you for giving us the opportunity to do so.

A few things on my mind related to the course.  First, while playing golf, if you take a divot please fill it in with the sand provided.  When on the greens, please fix your ballmarks and a few more. Thank you for helping out to make our course better taken care of.

The 2019 SCC Club Championship took place last month. Participation was decent, but hopefully in 2020, we will have even more members compete for all the titles. Winning the Overall Low Gross title was our Superintendent, Don Branske, once again. Don played very well, with rounds of 73-76-149, to win for the sixth straight year! For the Overall Net Title, SHS standout golfer, and SCC employee, long hitting Tristen Touchton took home the victory. He fired rounds of 73-70-143 net, to garner first place. The most surprising winner was RD Santerfeit. RD shot an amazing 83 gross on the final day to secure his Senior Flight title. He shot 77-69-146 net to earn his victory by 3 shots over a former champion, Bill Sivik.  Flight winners were Travis Helms in the First Flight, with rounds of 74-75-149 net. Second was Drew Bozeman, shooting rounds of 81-70-151 net. In the Second Flight, Dawson Wooley was the winner with rounds of 71-78-149 net. Finishing 4 shots behind Dawson was Toby Clements, shooting 78-75-153 net. In the Senior Flight, it was Bill Sivik winning first, playing well with rounds of 75-78-153 net. Second place went to Robert Dees, with scores of 74-80-154. THANK YOU to all who participated, and to Damon Wooley who prepared a very nice Saturday meal.
